New Toy!

I finally committed to buying a sewing machine! I have been talking about doing it since Aubrey was born... three years ago. I got a Brother CS6000i. I happen to think it is fantastic, but my opinions may be skewed a bit since the last sewing machine I ever used was rather old.

For my first project I decided to make Sierra a cute little sunhat. I LOVE the way it turned out. I am rather proud of myself. :P

It is rainy here today so I had to settle for crappy indoor pictures, but you have to admit she is rather adorable in it!

Aubrey has requested a hat of her own, so I guess I should get back to work. lol

Pictures, Finally!

After over a week of delays (sick baby followed by sick kid followed by sick me followed by sick husband) I finally have some pictures to show off my beautiful finished shawl!

I am absolutely thrilled with how it turned out! I think see more two colored shawls in the future.

Stripes, Stripes and More Stripes

Just at the point I was going to go crazy from knitting stripes, I am finished with them!

Now, I get to do the pretty border part! At the rate I am going I might just be finished with it this weekend.

This project has proven unique in that I have worked on it exclusively since I started it. I usually have two or three things I am working on at one time!

And the winner is!

Even after the input from everyone, I still couldn't decide what colors to do. So I went the random route.

I printed out pictures of all the options that got votes.

Stuck them in Sierra's hat.

And had Aubrey choose one for me.

The light blue-gray and dark gray combo won!

So far it is turning out really nice. I am excited to get to the lacy part though, the stripes will get boring pretty fast. :P

Options Part 2

Ok, two more options due to suggestions that I got.

And a picture of the actual shawl that I forgot to include in the first set.

Options. Opinions?

I have a shawl that I want to make that takes two colors. I have a few lots of options in my stash of yarn.
(also see part two)

I need some help from all you color savvy people! I have put together a few pairs of what I like. Tell me in the comments which you like. If there is a combo you think would look good and I don't have a picture of it, don't hesitate to tell me.

Easter Hat

Sierra is much too young to really care about what I make for her. So, I went with something practical. A pretty little sunhat to keep the sun off her little baby head this spring and summer.

I actually crocheted it. *Gasp* I don't crochet much anymore, even though it is what I learned first. Making this hat reminded me that I really do enjoy it. So much so that I started a LARGE crochet project. That is for another post though. :)

Here are some more gratuitous baby pictures. Just because she is adorable! :)

Easter Goodies

Since I wasn't going to be able to be there in person this year, I knit up a couple bunnies to send down to my nieces for Easter this year. I made them into ballerina bunnies, since my nieces are both in dance classes. I think they turned out super adorable. Well so long as you don't look too closely at the sewing on the skirts. :P

They were very well received and will be very well loved at their new home.

I made one for Aubrey too, but it has yet to get a skirt, shoes and photoshoot. She saw it was done and won't give it back. :) It looks the exact same as the other two but is periwinkle blue instead of pink.

Owls!

Andrew's new boss just had a new baby boy, so I whipped up some quick little owl themed stuff for them.

A sweet little stuffed owl.
Some adorable moccasins.

And a quick little owl face hat added in at the the last minute. And I mean really last minute, finished 10 minutes before bedtime.

Impromptu Knits

An impromptu move to a much colder state (Wyoming) has created some projects to interrupt my sock progress.

First up Aubrey's Fishy "Glubs'. They are really mittens, but I love the way she tries to say gloves. lol

And then a cute little hat for Sierra.

I guess now that we live in colder territory, all my knitting skills will actually be useful. :P

Sock Progress

One down, one to go. So far, the pattern has been a quick knit. Looks a bit complicated but was actually really easy to memorize.

Self-imposed Sock Club: March

I am supposed to be doing a self-imposed sock club, where I knit a pair of socks every month. The key words there are "supposed to be", I failed during February. The month just kind of got away from me.

But I am am back at it for March! Now that I have gotten through the birthday party for my now 3 year old (!), I can start on a pair of socks out of this beautiful yarn.

Hopefully, they turn out as pretty as they are in my mind. lol

Color Week: Conclusion

A couple days late, Oops! But here is the completed Color Week project:

A pretty sweater for Aubrey! She absolutely loves it! She calls it her rainbow colors sweater. And refuses to take it off. :D

Here are some bonus "action shots".

Color Week: Blue

After the unfortunate realization that I did my math wrong and my color week project was going to be too large, I had to start over. The good news, I am happier with the one I am doing now! I managed to get all the way back to the blue section and not "fall behind" Yay!
